Rice Made Easy
There is a universal side to many dishes around the world. What pairs well with just about everything? It’s rice. Rice doesn’t need to be hard, or a chore, so I’m going to walk you through a few different ways of making rice.
There are many different kinds of rice, from regular white rice, to Arborio, jasmine, brown, and so much more. There are also three classifications of rice, which are short, medium, and long grain rice. The shorter grained varieties are sticky and fluffy when cooked, while longer grains aren’t sticky, and have a heartier texture.
There isn’t much more to say, except find a type of rice you prefer, and use it daily in meals. I will go over two different ways of cooking your rice, so let’s get into it:
-What You Need-
1 Cup of Rice per person
2 Cups of Water per cup of rice(1 Cup in the Rice cooker and Instant Pot)
Either a Pot, Rice Cooker, or Instant Pot
A Large Pinch of Salt
Optional: Saffron
On The Stove
1) The first step to making the perfect rice is to rinse the rice. You can use a fine mesh sieve or the pot you’ll be cooking the rice in. In the sieve rinse the rice until the water starts to run clear, or fill the pot up about half way and mix the rice with your hands, then strain into the sink. Do this until the water starts to run clear.
2) Place 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water into your pot, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the salt to season the water before reducing the heat to attain a simmer, and covering.
3) let the rice cook for about 18 minutes. You can check it around 15 minutes to see if all of the water has been absorbed, but checking too frequently will increase the cooking time.
4) Once your rice is cooked, pull the pot off the heat, and let sit for 10 minutes covered before fluffing with a fork and serving. Enjoy.
In the Rice Cooker or Instant Pot
1) Rinse your rice.
2) Use a 1:1 ratio of water and rice in your cooker, along with 7-8 pieces of saffron if you would like, and a pinch of salt. and turn it on. Select the type of rice on a rice cooker, or choose the rice button on your Instant Pot. Most rice will be perfectly cooked in the default rice setting on the IP.
3) That’s pretty much it, just fluff your rice and enjoy.
Any way you look at it, rice can be used in pretty much any dish. The versatility of this as a side is unparalleled, and is even the front runner of many dishes. My suggestion to everyone is to try and utilize rice every day, even at breakfast with some scrambled eggs. I’ll keep this one short, so as always,
Stay Happy. Stay Healthy. Stay Cooking.
